Here is to Youth
An interesting observation about the animal characters in my house. Jack never had the opportunity to learn to be a dog much less a puppy but he is sweet as anything and way too eager to please. When Libby came into our life he was at first shy and a little afraid. She was both a dog and a real puppy with puppy ideas and puppy energy. She would constantly run over to and on Jack wanting so badly to have a playmate. Jack was confused and scared, he had no idea what she was all about nor what it was that she wanted from him. It took about 6 weeks but the puppy prevails 🙂 Libby now has a playmate and unknowingly she has brought the puppy in Jack out to play. Very cool. A few months ago I started volunteering at the grammar school down the street, I so needed to get out and be doing something. It has been the most amazing experience I could have ever hoped for. I have been infused with energy, curiosity and joy, they brought the child in me out to play… Hmmm

Jack and Libby and Spencer Too
I forgot to mention the other member of our trio of pets. His name is Spencer. Spencer is no less than 14 years old, we really don’t remember when we got him for sure…He is a fairly good sized Tuxedo cat with the demeanor of a crochity, entitled, geratric curmudgeon.
To be honest he is deserving of those attributes. Spencer has had more than his fair share of “new” pets to tolerate over the years and with the addition of the pup this year he is making his feelings known. Spencer has overseen other kittens, cats, puppies, a hamster and a rabbit, not to mention more than a couple of moves. Several years ago, because I was unable to, Spencer raised Jack…He still pulls Jack aside to give a cleaning to every once in a while.
He has no patience for Jack and Libby playing or when Libby gets a hold of her favorite squeek toy. He gets a scowl on his face that pretty much says, “Damn kids…” He is a good, just don’t change his routine… 🙂

Jack and Libby
Jack and Libby will become regular posts I am sure. Jack is my 7 year old neurotic mutt and Libby is my daughter’s 6 month old terrier mix pup. Oh but my…The other evening while preparing dinner I give them each pieces of carrot. They know to take it out of the kitchen to eat and all was well…for a bit. I begin to hear the sound of scratching and digging, I must investigate. Libby is scratching frantically at the edge of the couch…AH, the carrot must have rolled under. Sure enough I reach under and retrieve her precious carrot…during the next hour or so she continued to go back to the couch and scratch at the edge of the couch. Hmmm, I can only presume she now thinks her carrots come from under the couch… 🙂
